The Beauty of Willow Furniture
Modern rustic willow furniture and decor infuses any space with the warmth and natural beauty of the outdoors, unlike anything else on the market. These rustic willow creations, designed and constructed by Laurie Mohan, bring traditional methods and contemporary design together with natural materials in a way that celebrates the beauty found in nature.
Each piece is handmade and truly one of a kind. There is no machine work or mass production, and materials are harvested from the woods, not purchased on the market. Handcrafted from locally harvested materials from the boreal forest of northern Alberta, these unique creations are reflections of the beauty of the natural world.
For over 25 years, Laurie has worked with wild willow. Harvesting is always an adventure, especially when the snow is deep, but it connects Laurie to her work and inspires her design and aesthetic. She has recently added some other species into some of her work to expand her color palette. Her work is strong and functional and is an expresssion of her unique creative voice.
Laurie's willow products are built green from willow trees, and then kiln dried. They are treated with boracare and linseed oil and turpentine before they are sold, to protect them and to bring out their natural color. She takes time to inspect each piece to ensure that fasteners are hidden, nails are set, and surfaces are smooth before delivering them to the customer.
How it is Made:
Laurie's furniture is built with various species of wild willow, harvested locally in Alberta, Canada. Occasionally, alder is also incorporated into a piece. She purposely uses heavier than average materials in order to produce a stronger build that will not blow over in the wind or crack from excess weight. She uses screws instead of nails for structural pieces and brad nails and panel nails on benders. Every piece of willow is selected for quality and is gone over with a knife before installation, to remove bumps and and rough parts on the bark to ensure a smooth finished surface on the piece. She sands each piece, if necessary. When a piece is built, she sprays it, then kiln dries it, and treats it with a linseed oil/turpentine mix. Finally, she goes over each piece carefully for quality, to ensure that fasteners are all tapped in and hidden, and that nothing on the piece will catch on clothing. Customer satisfaction is our highest priority.

Willow furniture in Canada:
The Inspiration
Welcome to the home decor of Laurie Mohan, where she creates unique, one of a kind, willow furniture pieces from nature, that celebrate the beauty of the natural world in the modern rustic home. Laurie loves the smells, colors, textures, rejuvenation and reflection she experiences during her walks in the woods. She loves working with willow and recently added other species to enhance her color palette in her twig mosaic furniture, in the Adirondack tradition. She accepts commissions and will harvest on client property on request to create a truly unique and special piece all your own.
