Custom Furniture and Decor for Your Modern Rustic Home

From Concept to Creation...An Example
Cassandra Mostad Photography provided the photo below on the left and asked if I could build it out of willow. We conversed back and forth and I provided her a sketch with dimensions for her approval. Now she is taking beautiful portraits like the one on the right.

This unique pussy willow "egg" chair was designed and constructed according to a customer request. She wanted a reading chair, shaped like an egg, that she could curl up and read in, in her sun room. We made the seat lower than normal, the same height as her favorite chair, so that it would be the perfect height for a cushion, that she would have made elsewhere. She talked about installing mini lights on it for added charm and light. Now its easy to see that it is her favorite chair, and she says it is the favorite room in her house.
The Design Process
Each piece is handcrafted after doing a site visit or working from photos and measurements provided. Once I have understood my client's vision, and offered my thoughts, I create a sketch of the piece for my client's approval. This ensures that we are thinking along the same lines. Upon approval of the sketch and an estimated cost, I fit construction of the piece into my calendar. When it is time to begin the commission, I contact the client for a 50 percent deposit. I begin work on the piece, and provide images in process, if requested, in order to get feedback from them. When I am finished, a final image of the piece is emailed to the client for their final approval.
The piece is then kiln dried and finished with mixture of linseed oil and turpentine, to protect it and to make it look its best. Final finishing is done, to ensure that any fasteners are tapped in and hidden, and that all surfaces are smooth. It is now ready for pick up or delivery to its new home.
